Just seven short months ago, Disney finally re-launched the Star Wars franchise with The Force Awakens, but now, all eyes are on the future of this sic-fi saga, and many fans are eagerly awaiting to have their many burning questions answered in Episode VIII, but before that happens, we are going to get the very first Star Wars spin off movie, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which is due out in December. And we just got our first look at a brand new, action packed poster for the movie.

Disney and Lucasfilm first revealed the posted at Star Wars Celebration during the Rogue One panel, which closed out the main programing for the first day of the massive fan event in London. Director Gareth Edwards had this to say during the panel.

"It's a style unlike any other Star Wars movie."

This poster very much feeds that idea. It features an epic battle taking place on the new island planet called Scarif, and sees a group of stormtroopers rushing a beach to square off against the band of Rebels tasked with stealing the Death Star plans. All of this set against the backdrop of a blue sky, which is dominated by the image massive, planet destroying battle station in the background.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is a prequel movie takes place in the time between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope and tells the story of how the Rebels got their hands on the plans for the Empire's planet destroying weapon, the Death Star. The band of Rebels tasked with stealing the plans is being led by Jyn Erso, who has been described as a "Joan of Arc" character by Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy. She is accompanied by a mixed bag of rag-tag Rebels who are trying to secure the plans so that the Rebel Alliance can destroy the Empire's new, deadly weapon.

This first Star Wars spinoff movie introduces a bunch of new characters who are being played by some top notch talent. The cast includes Felicity Jones, Mads Mikkelsen, Ben Mendelsohn, Alan Tudyk, Diego Luna, Donnie Yen, Wen Jiang and Forest Whitaker, who is playing Saw Gerrera from Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The movie is directed by Godzilla helmer Gareth Edwards. The script was written by Chris Weitz, with the story by Gary Whitta and John Knoll.

Star Wars Celebration is going on now through Sunday in London, and Lucasfilm is streaming all of the panels on their website and YouTube channel so that fans who aren't able to attend can still participate. We will be sure to keep you updated on any Star Wars news that drops during celebration over the weekend. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story arrives in theaters on December 16.
