Ok, so we know every little about Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in the way of characters. That will change once we finally see the first trailer. And then we'll get to learn even more when the first spinoff gets its own Force Friday wave of merchandise this September. But a Marvel comic book prequel series will fully delve into the lives of these Rebel spies on a mission to save the galaxy. And the villains pursuing them.

Marvel is planning a three-issue limited edition prequel series for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. It was announced this morning at Diamond Comics Retailer breakfast ahead of the C2E2 event, which is basically Chicago's version of New York Comic Con. This new Star Wars series will fully introduce the characters played by Felicity Jones, Mads Mikkelsen, Ben Mendelsohn, Alan Tudyk, Diego Luna, Forest Whitaker, Donnie Yen and Wen Jiang. Though, no plot details or artwork have been released yet.

The Rogue One prequel comics are expected to debut this October. There will also be a one-shot issue tied to the movie. An exact release date has not been announced at this time. The movie is based on the first paragraph of the opening crawl seen in Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. The movie will take place during a period of Civil War. And it will focus on the Rebel's first major victory against the Galactic Empire after a surprise attack from a hidden base. It's during this sneak raid that a team of Rebel spies manage to steal the secret plans to the Empire's ultimate weapon: The dreaded Death Star! And it will end right where the original 1977 Star Wars picks up, with Princess Leia racing home aboard her starship hoping to restore freedom to the galaxy. Before she is captured by Lord Vader.

Back in September, Rogue One star Mads Mikkelsen signed an autograph for a fan, revealing that his name is Galen in this new adventure. Many fans have speculated that he could be Galen Marek from the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed video game. This character was the secret apprentice to Darth Vader, who went on to become instrumental in the formation of the Rebel Alliance, after uniting several of the Empire's enemies. While we still don't know for sure if Mads Mikkelsen is playing Galen Marek or not, further details seemed to point to this being at least partially true.

The character has been described as a scientist by insiders working for Lucasfilm. He is said to have taken over the Geonosian Death Star project, solving several of the space station's key flaws. He is revered by the Empire, getting compared to Robert Oppenheimer, who helped design the atomic bomb and later felt remorse for the death and destruction he helped create. Mads Mikkelsen's character reportedly flees from the Empire, and tries to "make things right," by enlisting the help of his only daughter, played by Felicity Jones. Which, if true, makes him a bad guy-turned-good guy. Mads Mikkelsen calls his character 'vital' and 'important' to the story.

Felicity Jones' character is rumored to be "undoing the devastation" her family has created in the galaxy. It was earlier rumored that her character was a bounty hunter, but that may not be true, given her connection to this scientist. There have been reports that the actress' character may be named Lyla Erso. More recent reports claim her name is Jyn, a name that has appeared in previous Star Wars publications. Jyn Obah, Jyn N'oram and Jyn Odan are all characters that have been introduced in the Legends canon. And it seems to be a common name in the Star Wars universe. If Felicity Jones' character is, in fact, called Jyn, she will be the first and only Jyn to appear in the official Star Wars canon.

There is no telling when we'll get the first Rogue One: A Star Wars Story trailer, but many believe it will arrive in theaters with Captain America: Civil War this May. It isn't known when we'll get any further official information about the movie. It is one of the most anticipated releases of the year, and even without much promotion, it should be a blockbuster hit. Stay tuned for more info as it breaks. We promise, we'll be there.
