The wait for the next Disney produced Star Wars movie is getting shorter and shorter, and now we have a brand new look at the upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Disney and Lucasfilm decided to drop the new trailer for the Star Wars spinoff movie after a very long wait that had many fans feeling quite restless. But the wait was worth it, as this trailer delivered in a big way. The featurette that they released last month at Star Wars Celebration may have been cool, but this absolutely takes the cake.

Prior to the release of this latest trailer for Rogue One, Lucasfilm finally revealed a lot of character details for the movie via Entertainment Weekly, which confirmed not only the names and descriptions for many of the characters in the movie, but also that Darth Vader would indeed be featured in Rogue One, which had been rumored for quite some time. They have continued to build the hype for the movie with this latest, full-length trailer, which prominently features many of the new characters that were recently teased by Disney and Lucasfilm. The trailer was released online and was also aired during the Olympics, which was promised earlier in the week via a TV spot that finally confirmed the trailer we had been waiting for was coming.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is a prequel movie that takes place in the time between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope and tells the story of how the Rebels got their hands on the plans for the Empire's planet destroying weapon, the Death Star. The band of Rebels tasked with stealing the plans is being led by Jyn Erso, who has been described as a "Joan of Arc" character by Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy. She is accompanied by a mixed bag of rag-tag Rebels who are trying to secure the plans so that the Rebel Alliance can destroy the Empire's new, deadly weapon.

This first Star Wars spinoff movie introduces a bunch of new characters who are being played by some top notch talent. The cast includes Felicity Jones, Mads Mikkelsen, Ben Mendelsohn, Alan Tudyk, Diego Luna, Donnie Yen, Wen Jiang and Forest Whitaker, who is playing Saw Gerrera from Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The movie is directed by Godzilla helmer Gareth Edwards. The script was written by Chris Weitz, with the story by Gary Whitta and John Knoll.

This is the first spinoff Star wars movie of many planned by Disney and Lucasfilm, and this latest trailer has us all more excited than ever for the movie, and in just a handful of short months, we will get to see it in all of its glory. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is set for release on December 16. Be sure to watch the brand new, full-length trailer for Rogue One courtesy of LucasFilm.
