Should Rogue One: A Star Wars Story have gotten more love? Many fans certainly think so, famous filmmaker James Gunn being among them. Recently checking Twitter, Gunn noticed that Rogue One was trending, and he was apparently happy to see the film getting a lot of attention. That's because, as Gunn noted himself in a tweet, he considers the movie to be the most underrated Star Wars "anything," clearly making his appreciation known.

"I don't know why Rogue One is trending, but I'm glad it is, as it's the most underrated Star Wars anything," Gunn wrote.

The film appears to be trending thanks to a tweet that went viral the day before quizzing fans about their unpopular Star Wars opinions. This had many fans of Rogue One voicing support for the film with their belief that the film is much better than it seems to get credit for. In a matter of hours, Rogue One was trending, with thousands of fans sharing that opinion. Perhaps as time has gone on since the movie's original release in 2016, more and more fans have been warming up to it.

Gareth Edwards directed Rogue One: A Star Wars Story using a screenplay by Chris Weitz and Tony Gilroy with a story by John Knoll and Gary Whitta. It serves as a prequel to A New Hope and follows a group of rebels banding together to steal the plans for the Death Star. The film, deemed by many to be underrated, stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, Jiang Wen, and Forest Whitaker.

While many fans feel the film should be more appreciated, it was not without its success. It earned mostly positive reviews and garnered more than $1 billion at the box office, making it the second-highest-grossing movie of 2016. A prequel series, dubbed Andor, is currently in the works for a release later this year on Disney+ featuring Luna returning as Cassian Andor. The 12-episode series also brings back Forest Whitaker as Saw Gerrera, and chances are there will be other surprises in store for Rogue One fans. Stellan Skarsgadr, Adria Arjona, and Fiona Shaw also star.

Discussions about unpopular opinions in the Star Wars universe also had some people talking about The Star Wars Holiday Special. The televised special has become infamous for how badly received it was by fans at the time, and for decades, the footage became very rare with no official release. While it's hard to say if Mark Hamill was speaking in jest and having some fun with the situation, he joined some of these fans in mentioning that The Star Wars Holiday Special is "under appreciated."

Of course, everyone will have their own opinions when it comes to Star Wars. Fortunately for those who believe Rogue One didn't get enough attention, the release of Andor this year will likely have many fans going back to revisit the "underrated" movie.
