Variety reports that Relativity Media's Rouge Pictures has acquired the North American and U.K. rights to the Sundance documentary film Catfish. The film will be released via Universal who Rogue has an output deal through.

Brett Ratner is an executive producer on this project. Rogue paid $1.5 million, plus a significant marketing commitment, to pick up the film.

Catfish examines "human relationships in the age of social networking."

Paramount Pictures was also vying for this film but it didn't put up the money that Rogue did.

The film is directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman. It follows a New York photographer who develops an Internet relationship with a family who are not who they say they are.
