Roseanne Barr will produce and perform in an upcoming comedy special that will air on Fox Nation, the subscription streaming service from FOX News Media. The one-hour comedy special, titled A Roseanne Comedy Special, will debut on the streamer in early 2023. It is Barr's first special since 2006's Blonde and Bitchin‘ that aired on HBO. Fox Nation reports that A Roseanne Comedy Special will "feature Ms. Barr’s signature comedic take on a variety of topics, with no subject off limits.”

In an official statement, Jason Klarman, the president of Fox Nation, said:

“Roseanne is a comedy icon whose humor connects with the American audience like no other. Her ability to channel the challenges of everyday people and find the humor in it all has earned her the passionate following of millions of dedicated fans. We are thrilled to add her comedy special exclusively to the Fox Nation catalog.”

While Fox Nation was created as an expansion for their news coverage, the streamer is beginning to bring in entertainment and lifestyle programming. In order to provide this type of content for Fox News viewers, Fox Nation plans on adding programming that will include celebrities Sharon Osbourne, Kevin Costner, Piers Morgan and Frasier star Kelsey Grammer.

From Roseanne to The Conners

The Conners Season 2 Is Imminent as Cast Deals Begin to Close (1)
ABC

Barr began her career as a stand-up comedian before starring on Roseanne. The ABC sitcom revolved around the Conners: Roseanne and her husband Dan, their children Darlene, Becky and DJ, and Roseanne's sister Jackie, a working-class family living in the fictional town of Lanford, Illinois. The series aired successfully from 1988-1997 and starred Barr, John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson, and Michael Fishman. Barr received one Emmy Award and one Golden Globe Award, Metcalf received three consecutive Emmy Awards, and Goodman received one Golden Globe Award for their work on the critically acclaimed series.

In 2018, Barr appeared in the short-lived series revival, which included the show's original core cast. While successful, the show hit a road bump after Barr tweeted an offensive remark about President Barack Obama's senior adviser Jarrett. Barr issued an apology following her racist remark, but on May 29, 2018, the network announced that they would not proceed with the series. That same year, ABC announced their plans for The Conners, a series that would exclude Barr but include the remaining cast. In its first episode, viewers learn that the family matriarch has died from an opioid overdose.

Roseanne was co-created and starred Barr. Season five of The Conners premieres tomorrow.
