Several new cast members have been added to the roster for the upcoming Paramount+ reboot of beloved cartoon, Rugrats. But fear not, the original cast are still on board to return as the voices of the children, these new cast members will instead play some of the adult characters.

Several recognisable names from the comedy and sitcom scene are now on board for the Rugrats reboot. Playing Didi and Stu, the parents of Tommy Pickles will be Ashley Rae Spillers (Vice Principals) and Tommy Dewey (The Mindy Project), respectively. Tony Hale, who is best known for roles in the likes of Arrested Development and Veep will voice Chuckie's father, Chas. Natalie Morales (Dead to Me) has signed on to voice Betty, the mother of twins Phil and Lil.

Anna Chlumsky (My Girl, Veep) and Timothy Simons (Veep, Inherent Vice) will voice Angelica's parents, Charlotte and Drew, with Nicole Byer (Nailed It!) and Omar Miller (Ballers) on board to provide the voices of Susie's parents, Lucy and Randy. Finally, voicing Granda Lou Pickles is Michael McKean, who is well known for his role in the classic comedy This is Spinal Tap. More recently, McKean has starred in other such classics as Veep, The Good Place, and Better Call Saul.

These new casting additions join several of the original voice actors, each of whom will reprise their roles from the original Rugrats series. Returning for this new series are E.G. Daily as Tommy, Nancy Cartwright as Chuckie, Cheryl Chase as Angelica, Cree Summer as Susie and Kath Soucie as the twins Phil and Lil.

Nickelodeon President Brian Robbins has now addressed the decision to keep the original core voice cast as the voices of the kid characters, but bring in new actors for the grown-up roles. "First of all, we have all the original babies back, all the original cast back, which we are thrilled to have" Robbins said. "Some of the original actors - remember the show is 20-25+ years-old, and we thought there was an opportunity for new exciting comedic voices who grew up watching and being fans of the show and let them do cameos. So, we are really excited about our adult cast on Rugrats."

First airing back in 1991, Rugrats focuses on a group of toddlers, most prominently Tommy, Chuckie, twins Phil and Lil, and Angelica, and their day-to-day lives, usually involving life experiences that become much greater adventures in the imaginations of the main characters. The series ran for nine seasons, spawning several big screen outings, The Rugrats Movie and Rugrats in Paris: The Movie, as well as a spin-off titled All Grown Up!. The Rugrats franchise was a huge success, and is fondly remembered by fans, who have had, to put it gently, mixed reactions to the upcoming CGI reimagining.

Just like the original series, the new Rugrats series will again focus on the experiences of a courageous, adventurous one-year-old baby named Tommy Pickles and his group of playmates and other infants and toddlers. The series is due to premiere sometime in 2021 on Paramount+. This comes to us from Deadline.
