Oscar nominee Ryan Gosling will soon lead his own action thriller franchise in the Netflix outing, The Gray Man. And the actor clearly had a great time punching, shooting, and exploding his way through adversaries as Gosling cannot wait to return for more in a sequel. While we await the first movie's release, the official production notes for The Gray Man reveal that Gosling already has his sights set on The Gray Man 2.

"I loved making this film. I'd love to do it again. I'm hoping we can bump Six up to a name status at some point, just for his own sanity."

Based on the 2009 novel of the same name by Mark Greaney and directed by Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame duo The Russo Brothers, The Gray Man follows Ryan Gosling as Court Gentry AKA Sierra Six, the CIA's most skilled mercenary whose true identity is known to none. After accidentally uncovering dark agency secrets, Gentry finds himself pursued by Chris Evans’ Lloyd Hansen, a psychopathic former colleague, who puts a bounty on his head, setting off a global manhunt by international assassins.

The Gray Man marks Gosling’s first foray into full-on action movie territory, and the actor has now explained what drew him to the role of Court Gentry and the explosive shenanigans he gets himself into.

"His goals aren't monetary, it's not about treasure, it's not revenge. He just wants to have the right to sit on the couch and watch Netflix like the rest of us."

So, lacking any kind of mission, and simply endeavoring to survive, get home, and sit down on the couch in front of the television screen is what endeared Gosling to the role of Sierra Six. Frankly, The Gray Man sounds like the perfect action hero for the laid-back Ryan Gosling to play — which early reactions have confirmed.

The Gray Man 2 is Already in Early Development

Already looking to the future and dreaming of the idea of The Gray Man 2 (which will no doubt see Gentry get up off his seat and once again take down bad guys rather than binging the latest season of Stranger Things) will come as good news to both Netflix and The Russo Brothers, who are hoping to spawn a franchise off the back of The Gray Man.

And launch a franchise they will, with both The Gray Man 2 and a prequel centering on Chris Evans as Lloyd Hansen are already said to be “at the very early stage.” With eleven novels in The Gray Man series, Gosling should prepare himself for many more adventures as Sierra Six.

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo from a screenplay the latter co-wrote with Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, The Gray Man stars Ana de Armas, Jessica Henwick, Regé-Jean Page, Wagner Moura, Julia Butters, Dhanush, Alfre Woodard, Billy Bob Thornton, Callan Mulvey, Eme Ikwuakor, Scott Haze, Michael Gandolfini, Sam Lerner, Robert Kazinsky as Perini, and DeObia Oparei.

The Gray Man is set for a limited release on July 15, 2022, followed by its release on Netflix on July 22, 2022.
