Ryan Gosling is ready to become the perfect partner for Margot Robbie in Greta Gerwig's Barbie, despite the fact that many people think he’s too old to bring Mattel's popular doll to life.

Although the film by the director of Lady Bird will have Robbie's character as its main focus, Ken will be with her at every step, whether it be in her seemingly perfect life in Barbieland, or in her great adventure into the real world after being expelled from hers because of not meeting social standards.

But Ken will be much more than just a partner for Barbie, he will also tell his own story. And that was the reason why Gosling took the role, and why he defends it against those who criticize him for his age.

While speaking to GQ Magazine, the actor responded to those who have given negative comments about the character and himself:

“I would say, you know, if people don’t want to play with my Ken, there are many other Kens to play with. It is funny,” he added, “this kind of clutching-your-pearls idea of, like, #notmyken. Like you ever thought about Ken before this? And everyone was fine with that, for him to have a job that is nothing. But suddenly, it’s like, ‘No, we’ve cared about Ken this whole time.’ No, you didn’t. You never did. You never cared. Barbie never f****d with Ken. That’s the point. If you ever really cared about Ken, you would know that nobody cared about Ken. So your hypocrisy is exposed. This is why his story must be told.”

Gosling also shared he feels a special connection with the character now:

“I care about this dude now. I’m like his representative. ‘Ken couldn’t show up to receive this award, so I’m here to accept it for him.’ ”

In addition to telling the story of the most famous doll in history and one of the most representative faces of pop culture, there is no doubt that one of Barbie's main attractions is its cast. And Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the long list of incredible stars in the film.

The film will feature various versions of Barbie, with Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Nicola Coughlan, Hari Nef and more starring as them. As for the Kens, Simu Liu and Kingsley Ben-Adir will be some of the main actors behind them. Emerald Fennell and Michael Cera are two dolls that have already been discontinued, while Dua Lipa and John Cena will play a mermaid and a merman. As for humans, we'll see actors like America Ferrera and Will Ferrell in the real world interacting with Barbie. The cast is completed by Ncuti Gatwa, Emma McKay, Alexandra Shipp, Ariana Greenblatt, Helen Mirren and many more.

There will also be big names behind the cameras in addition to Gerwig, who penned the script alongside Oscar winner Diablo Cody (Juno) and Noach Baumbach (White Noise).
