When Betty White joked that Ryan Reynolds hasn’t been able to “get over” her even though it has now been over a decade since the pair co-starred in The Proposal in 2009, it was only a matter of time before the Deadpool actor made some response to the comments. With January 17th marking White’s 100th birthday, both Reynolds and fellow The Proposal star Sandra Bullock were both interviewed about their time working with the star, and Reynolds admitted that he had been a White fan for some time. White loves a quick-witted quip as much as anyone and joshed Reynolds by saying he had “always had a crush on her,” and she didn’t believe he would ever be over her.

In his usual humorous style, Reynolds responded “I’m absolutely sick of the media exploiting past relationships just to drive clicks,” which was in reply to a post of the original story by People. Of course, it is all in good humor as was seen by the added response from Reynolds’ followers who were quick to “offer sympathy” for the way the media has “exploited” him.

One follower wrote: “It hurts like new with every notification I’m sure. Everyone ”liking” that Betty is with someone new while you’re “stuck” with your incredible, talented, and beautiful bride. I think the musical philosopher Bryan Adams put it best,” and linked to a YouTube video of Bryan Adams’ Cuts Like A Knife.

Another added: “That’s absolutely absurd! Just unheard of!! I mean to expose his true feelings like that. He’s married! I’m just sorry Blake had to find out this way. Flushed face On a happier note, I’m birthday twins w/Betty White.”

A third went on: “Dude, you have to move on, because she clearly has. Her Tinder account was deactivated. Go find another Golden Girl to wear matching snuggies and eat 10 year old hard butterscotch candy with. It’s for the best. My heart goes out to you during this difficult time.”

Of course, it is hard to find someone who has a bad word to say about Ryan Reynolds, and even less likely to find anyone who doesn’t have a soft spot for Betty White, so between the two of them, there was always going to be a lot of love for their banter. While Reynolds has recently been busier than ever, even with the actor having recently taken a sabbatical from acting, White certainly hasn’t just faded into the background in the later years of her life, having continued to appear on TV and in films, including providing voice for “Bitey White” in Toy Story 4 and the Disney+ shorts Forky Asks A Question.

With the longest television career of any entertainer in history, Betty White has been working in the industry for 90 years. With over 30 movie credits and more than 50 TV series credits that total over 900 individual appearances, White is certainly one of the most prolific stars of the last century and it will be a career that will be hard to beat.
