Sony Pictures is planning on re-imagining the classic tale of Sabrina The Teenage Witch, making the teenager a superhero.

The edgy live action film will be an origin story in the vein of Spider-Man, about a young girl coming to terms with her remarkable powers. They are keeping the talking black cat Salem, who is a transformed prince, creating a unique love story for Sabrina.

Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari are penning the script, with Don Murphy, Archie Comics' Jon Goldwater and Susan Montford assigned to produce. Mark Waters is being eyed to direct the project depending on scheduling.

Sabrina The Teenage Witch was previously turned into an animated tv series in the late 60's and then again as a sitcom that starred Melissa Joan Hart in 1999.
