Sam Raimi just can’t seem to escape his roots as one of the creators of The Evil Dead, and it doesn’t seem like he really wants to. While the director has gone on to have many other hits, fans have always come back to his work on The Evil Dead, and more recently his additions to the world of Marvel movies with his Spider-Man trilogy and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Although Raimi has not directed an Evil Dead movie since 1993’s Army of Darkness, he would consider to returning to direct a future installment, and would also be more than happy to revisit Spider-Man or another MCU project, but those kind of returns would always come with a kind of caveat. During an AMA session on Reddit, Raimi was asked directly if he would consider returning to his best known franchises again, and responded:

“I would return to direct or write for any of those franchises if I could. I loved my experiences on all sets and have a great relationship with my partners on EVIL DEAD, SPIDERMAN, and DR. STRANGE 2. Each could be a very exciting experience for me creatively.”

There are many Raimi fans out there who would certainly be happy to see him back at the helm of a new Tobey Maguire-starring Spider-Man movie, or indeed bringing up the Deadite army again, but for now, both of those franchises are occupied with other directors and that may mean that fans will have wait a little longer to see Raimi jumping on one of these projects in future.

Although Sam Raimi has not been in the director’s chair for any of the recent Spider-Man or Evil Dead movies, he has never been too far from the production. While he acted as producer on both the remake of The Evil Dead and does so again on this April’s release of Evil Dead Rise, Raimi was also consulted on Marvel Studios and Sony’s Spider-Man: No Way Home regarding the returning characters of Raimi’s original trilogy. When discussing the new movie, Raimi reacted to the return of Doc Ock (Alfred Molina), saying:

"That was beautiful. He looks great, the animation's great. I'm assuming it's not puppeted because when we did Doc Ock, we had puppets and animation for his octopus tentacles. But it was smooth and powerful and I loved his costume they kept [from the original]. I think it's gonna be a great movie."

Although the MCU’s Spider-Man will continue to be Tom Holland’s role for a while to come, Raimi previously explained that he won’t be taking on directorial duties for any of his future movies for one simple reason. He said:

“I love Spider-Man. And I love Tom Holland in the role. [But] if I made a Spider-Man movie, it would probably have to be with Tobey or he’d break my neck.”
