Following the news that Sam Rockwell and Mickey Rourke were in talks to appear in Iron Man 2, Rockwell has decided to break the silence about his involvement in the film. Rockwell told MTV that not only is he confirmed to appear in the movie as Justin Hammer, but he says that he was also in talks with director Jon Favreau about playing Tony Stark in the first film.

"We had a phone conversation about it, and then I didn't hear anything and that was it," Rockwell said. While that didn't work out, he was then offered the role of Hammer in the sequel. "They were like, we don't have a script but this is the deal and this is the character."

Rockwell spoke a bit about the role that Hammer plays in the film. "Yeah, he's a rival," Rockwell nodded. "He takes over all the weapons stuff after Tony's left... I don't know if he takes over Stark Industries. I'm not really sure yet. He's a money dude. That's about all I can say."

When asked if he was excited to work with Mickey Rourke, Rockwell's response was an immediate "Yes," although he wouldn't confirm that Rourke had been cast yet as the film's other villain (reports differ as to whether Rourke is in talks to play Whiplash or the Crimson Dynamo).

Rockwell expects to hit the set of the film in spring of 2009. "Mid-April maybe," he estimates. "In L.A., I think."

Now that Tony Stark has gone public with his alter-ego Iron Man - there is no telling what evil force will come forward to battle the invincible Iron Man! Jon Favreau is the director behind Iron Man 2, and the film stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Jon Favreau, Mickey Rourke and Sam Rockwell. Expect to see Iron Man 2 in theatres in the spring of 2010.
