Sam Worthington and Robin Wright have signed on to star in Universal Pictures' Everest, joining a growing cast that includes Josh Brolin, Jake Gyllenhaal, John Hawkes, Jason Clarke and Emily Watson.

This drama based on a true story follows a 1996 expedition to the top of Mount Everest, where three separate groups were hit by a sudden storm, which claimed the lives of eight climbers. Part of this story was already told in Jon Krakauer's book Into the Wild, which was adapted into the 2007 feature starring Emile Hirsch. Sam Worthington is playing Guy Cotter, while Robin Wright is playing Peach, the wife of Beck Weathers (Josh Brolin).

Baltasar Kormákur (2 Guns) is directing from a script by William Nicholson (Les Miserables, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom), Simon Beaufoy (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) and Mark Medoff (Children of a Lesser God). Production is currently under way in Nepal on the base of Mount Everest, as well as Italian Dolomites and Cinecitta Studios in Rome and Pinewood Studios in the U.K.

Sam Worthington will next be seen in Sabotage, opening in theaters this weekend, while Robin Wright currently stars on Season 2 of Netflix's House of Cards.
