Samuel L. Jackson has joined the cast of director Spike Lee's upcoming remake Oldboy. The actor will play a small but critical role of a man who is tortured by Josh Brolin's character. The scene is considered one of the most disturbing elements of the original Oldboy from director Chan-wook Park, where Dal-su Oh takes out the teeth of his former captor, by using the end of a hammer. It is said that the remake will not feature the same kind of torture, although it will be just as gruesome. Elizabeth Olsen and Sharlto Copley also star.

Spike Lee is directing from a screenplay by Mark Protosevich. Musician Bruce Hornsby has also signed on to compose the score. He also provided the score for Spike Lee's last movie, Red Hook Summer.

Production will begin later this fall in Louisiana and New York.
