It's been just under a week since Roseanne Barr's racist tweets towards former Obama administration aide Valerie Jarrett, which sparked outrage and ABC's quick decision, just hours later, to cancel Roseanne. Most of Roseanne Barr's co-stars have released statements, including Sara Gilbert, who reprised her role as Darlene Connor and also served as a producer on the new series, but today, Gilbert returned to the CBS series The Talk, which she formerly served as a co-host, to reiterate her statement while revealing she defends ABC's decision to cancel Roseanne. Here's what Gilbert had to say during The Talk this morning.

"In addition to my statement, I would say this has been a very difficult week. A lot of people have been hurt by this. I will say I'm proud of the show we made. The show has always been about diversity, love, and inclusion, and it's sad to see it end in this way. I'm sad for the people who lost their jobs in the process, however, I do stand behind the decision that ABC made."

Gilbert's original statement was made on Twitter, shortly after Barr's statement and ABC's decision to cancel Roseanne, where she called Barr's statement, "abhorrent," adding that it does not reflect "the beliefs of our cast and crew or anyone associated with our show." The actress added that she was, "disappointed in her actions to say the least," adding that the show they created, which the whole cast and crew believe in, is, "separate and apart from the opinions and words of one cast member." The Talk co-host Sheryl Underwood responded to Gilbert's statement with one of her own.

"As a black woman who is a comedian, I'm very very proud of Channing Dungey. As Spike Lee said, 'A lot of people came together to do the right thing,' and I'm happy to see that it was done swiftly."

The Talk co-host Julie Chen also praised the quick decision by ABC to cancel the show, adding, "Canceling the show so quickly sent a strong message and the right message, that's for sure." Roseane Barr ultimately apologized to Valerie Jarrett, ABC and the cast and crew of Roseanne for, "making a thoughtless joke that does not reflect my values." Before the cancellation and shortly after Barr's tweets, executive producer Wanda Sykes announced on Twitter that she was leaving the show, and Emma Kinney revealed on social media that she had called her reps to tell them she was quitting, only to be told that the show had just been cancelled.

Gilbert did not address the rumors of a new Roseanne spin-off, which surfaced over the weekend and claimed that ABC is eyeing a new series that would focus on Gilbert's character Darlene Connor. Nothing has been officially announced regarding this potential spin-off yet, but given how high the ratings were for Roseanne when it premiered in March, it wouldn't be surprising that ABC is eyeing some sort of a continuation, which will certainly be without Roseanne Barr.
