When we first heard about Sarah Gadon's involvement in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, many thought she was replacing the recently fired actress Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson, although we later learned that Mary Jane's character is being cut completely from the movie. Sarah Gadon gave her first public statement about her role in the superhero sequel, revealing that she's playing an android cop.

"My character is an artificial intelligence officer. She represents the convergence of humanity and technology - it's very Cronenberg."

The news makes sense, after director Marc Webb's statement about the character, comparing her to Hal 9000 from 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Of course, the actress is no stranger to David Cronenberg, having starred in his last two films, Cosmopolis and A Dangerous Method, along with his son Brandon Cronenberg's directorial debut Antiviral.

It's possible that this artificial intelligence officer is an Oscorp creation, but that has not been confirmed. Chris Cooper is playing Norman Osborn, while Dane DeHaan plays his son, Harry Osborn.

We'll keep you posted if any further details are revealed regarding Sarah Gadon's character.
