Last month, during Saturday Night Live's final episode of 2015, it was revealed that Star Wars: The Force Awakens star Adam Driver will host the first episode of 2016, on January 16. Today the network announced the host of this year's second new Saturday Night Live episode, UFC fighter Ronda Rousey. She will be joined by musical guest Selena Gomez on January 23, while Adam Driver will be joined by Grammy nominee Chris Stapleton as the musical guest.
This will be Ronda Rousey's first time hosting Saturday Night Live, and it will also mark her first major TV appearance since losing her UFC women's title to Holly Holm back in November. The UFC has already announced that a rematch is in the works, but it isn't known when that will happen yet. UFC President Dana White had originally planned for the rematch to happen at UFC 200, on July 9 in Las Vegas, but the deals aren't finalized yet, and it's possible that Holly Holm could fight another top contender, such as Miesha Tate, before her rematch with Ronda Rousey.
While Ronda Rousey has certainly been keeping busy in the ring, with three fights last year, she has also been expanding her repertoire on the acting side as well. After making her acting debut in 2009's American Judoka, she has since appeared in several high-profile projects, including The Expendables 3, Furious 7 and Entourage. She has also been set to star in a biopic about her own life, entitled My Fight/Your Fight, and she has also been tapped to star in a remake of Road House.
Ronda Rousey's musical guest, Selena Gomez, will also be making her SNL debut as well. Her latest album, "Revival," has featured hits "Good for You" and "Same Old Love." On the acting side, she will next be seen co-starring with James Franco and Bryan Cranston in In Dubious Battle, and alongside Seth Rogen, Zac Efron and Chloe Moretz in Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising.
It remains to be seen whether or not Ronda Rousey or Adam Driver will bring any special guests along with them during their hosting stint. It's possible that plans for Ronda Rousey's rematch with Holly Holm could be officially announced by then, but it remains to be seen if the show's cast and writers will be poking fun at her first loss ever in the octagon, to Holly Holm. It wouldn't be surprising, though to see the show spoof Adam Driver's Star Wars: The Force Awakens character, Kylo Ren. Are you looking forward to seeing both Ronda Rousey and Adam Driver on Saturday Night Live later this month?
