Steve Urkel is locked and loaded as he roams the streets of Chicago in a Saturday Night Live parody of Family Matters. Inspired by Peacock's Bel-Air, a reimagining of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air with a much darker and more dramatic tone, the SNL sketch features Chris Redd taking on the role of a much meaner Urkel. While hilarious, the parody goes to show that Family Matters probably wouldn't translate quite as well a Bel-Air to this new tone. You can check out the video below.

In this new take on Family Matters, Steve Urkel carries over his nerdy appearance, but he's no longer a milquetoast weakling. Always carrying a concealed pistol, this Urkel is not afraid to get his hands dirty when necessary. Because of the trouble he gets into on the streets, as well as his romantic interest in the daughter of local law officer Carl Winslow (Kenan Thompson), Urkel will have a lot to handle in the reimagined reboot. But what matters above all is family.

"You're pulling guns out on kids, Steve?" Carl tells Urkel. "The Steve Urkel I know is way too smart for that kind of hood nonsense. Son, I've been a Chicago cop for twenty years. If you continue down this path, you're gonna wind up dead or locked up by your 18th birthday."

When Urkel laments that nobody will care when he's gone because he has no family, Carl responds, "You're wrong, Steve. The Winslows are your family. And family f**king matters."

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Is Getting Serious on Peacock

This skit comes along with Bel-Air preparing for a debut on Peacock. Inspired by a YouTube video teasing a similar premise, Bel-Air is a dramatic reimagining of the 90 sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Will Smith is involved as a producer and the new series stars Jabari Banks as Will. Other characters from the original like Uncle Phil, Aunt Viv, and Carlton Banks are all present, but not quite as hilarious as they were in the original sitcom.

"3 years ago, my guy Morgan Cooper uploaded his fan trailer to YouTube, showing how he envisioned the Fresh Prince as a drama. Now, here is the first full look at his retelling of the story that's always been so close to my heart. Can't wait for you guys to see it," Smith wrote when sharing the new trailer to YouTube. You can watch that trailer below.

The synopsis reads: "Set in modern-day America, Peacock's new one-hour drama series Bel-Air reimagines the beloved sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air through a new, dramatic take on Will's complicated journey from the streets of West Philadelphia to the gated mansions of Bel-Air. As these two worlds collide, Will (Jabari Banks) reckons with the power of second chances while navigating the conflicts, emotions, and biases of a world far different from the only one he's ever known. Executive produced by Will Smith, and inspired by Morgan Cooper's viral trailer that reimagined the iconic, culture-defining '90s sitcom."

You can check out Bel-Air when the show starts streaming on Feb. 13 on Peacock.
