After becoming the highest-grossing R-rated animated comedy of all time, Sony's hit Sausage Party is now available to own on Digital HD, before arriving on Blu-ray and DVD November 8. The movie earned $97.6 million domestically and $136.8 million worldwide, which isn't a huge tally by most box office standards, although it did only cost $19 million to produce. Before you pick up this comedy on Digital HD this week, a new alternate ending has been released. If you haven't seen Sausage Party yet, there will be big SPOILERS pertaining to the ending below.

The alternate ending debuted on iTunes, which includes interview segments with directors Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan, who reveal that they had the luxury of three or four endings to choose from. The theatrical cut ended with Frank (Seth Rogen) and the rest of his friends learning that they're actually cartoons, voiced by Hollywood actors. The movie ended with these characters stepping through a "Stargate" to confront the voice actors, but this alternate ending shows them actually going through, landing on Hollywood Boulevard's iconic Walk of Fame.

We also hear from Seth Rogen and his writing partner Evan Goldberg, who explain that they end up on James Franco's star on the Walk of Fame. Evan Goldberg says that they have come to "get revenge and cut the strings," after realizing that they are "cartoons that aren't in control of themselves." They end up spotting Seth Rogen, Edward Norton and Michael Cera all having hot dogs for lunch together. Director Conrad Vernon goes onto say that the scene was cut because they weren't getting, "enough bang for our buck" with that ending, but they're glad that fans will finally be able to see it.

This alternate ending is exclusive to the digital release, and there is also another feature entitled "Alt Ending: The Real World Live Action," which takes viewers behind-the-scenes of the alternate ending. Other bonus features include "Animated Improv" where the all-star cast of comic geniuses come up with funny one-liners while recording their voice parts and "Concept Art to Screen" where fans can go behind the scenes of the character development process and see how the filthy-mouthed food items were drawn to perfection. Other features exclusive to the Blu-ray include "Good Food Gag Reel," a hilarious series of outtakes, "Line-O-Rama," a series of side-splitting alternative takes and off-the-cuff improvs and "Shock and Awe: How Did This Get Made?," where fans learn how Seth Rogen and his team finally convinced someone to make a "hard R" rated animated movie.

In this CG-animated movie, one sausage leads a group of supermarket products on a quest to discover the truth about their existence and what really happens when they become chosen to leave the grocery store. The film features the vocal talents of some of today's best comedy stars - Seth Rogen, Kristen Wiig, Jonah Hill, Bill Hader, Michael Cera, James Franco, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson, Paul Rudd, Nick Kroll, David Krumholtz, Edward Norton and Salma Hayek. We reported last month that Sony is launching an Oscar campaign for Sausage Party, with the studio pushing for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for Alan Menken's "The Great Beyond."
