Is Sausage Party the Saving Private Ryan of CG animated comedies? The latest extended sneak peek surely supports that idea. After an innocent hot dog is sliced right down the middle, his food friends all decided to take a stand. In the process, they call an all-out war on the human race. But let's face it. These guys are all pretty far down the food chain, and when the BBQ smoke clears, the jams and jellies have beed mopped up, and all the guac has been sponged off the floor, we can't imagine these edibles will reign victorious.

Sausage Party is about one sausage leading a group of supermarket products on a quest to discover the truth about their existence and what really happens when they become chosen to leave the grocery store. This latest sneak peek brings new footage, and all of it is downright terrifying. While the R-rated animated adventure is being sold as an 'adults only' animated comedy, it surely appears to be equal parts horror movie as well.

This Pixar spoof features an epic ensemble of voice actors including Seth Rogen, Kristen Wiig, Jonah Hill, Bill Hader, Michael Cera, James Franco, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson, Paul Rudd, Nick Kroll, David Krumholtz, Edward Norton and Salma Hayek. Producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are also responsible for creating the film, their first attempt at doing a full-length animated feature film. The duo previously penned the script for teen classic Superbad and dope adventure Pineapple Express. They made their directorial debut with 2014's This is the End, and directed the pilot for AMC's summer series Preacher, which has already been renewed for a Second season.

Directing this animated horror comedy are Greg Tiernan and Conrad Vernon, who take their adventure gleefully to the edge of NC-17. Though, the film is confirmed to have an R-rating from the MPAA. Seth Rogen headlines this adventure as a hotdog just looking to get laid inside a delicious bun. But he soon discovers his destiny lies upon a different path. Here's what co-director Evan Goldberg had to tell us about the movie as production was starting back in 2014.

"Sausage Party is an existential mock-Pixar movie, and we are very, very proud of it. It's our opus. It's like Mr. Holland's Opus! It's our take on a Pixar movie. It is very, very R rated. I wish there were fifty Pixar movies every year. But listen, someone should take those motherf*ckers down a notch. Those high and mighty bastards. We're mocking all animated movies, with a special eye on Pixar. It is about a sausage in a supermarket. He goes on an epic journey to get back to his isle before the 4th of July, and reunite with his pack of sausage friends."

Sausage Party is hitting theaters on August 12. It will be going up against the biblical remake Ben-Hur as well as Disney's family adventure reboot Pete's Dragon. Universal will also launch the supernatural military thriller Spectral, which is the studio's answer to Ghostbusters. And Paramount is releasing the biopic Florence Foster Jenkins starring Meryl Streep. It's quite obvious Sausage Party is unique and not like anything else arriving this summer. That alone could make it an unexpected hit. While we await it's gore soaked arrival, take a look at the latest war torn footage in the extended TV Trailer courtesy of Youtube.
