Dustin Diamond could return as Samuel "Screech" Powers if Peacock's Saved by the Bell reboot gets another season. Elizabeth Berkley spoke about Diamond and his absence from the upcoming first season of the reboot. Fans of the series have wondered if Screech was going to make an appearance, even after Diamond revealed that he had not been invited. Lark Voorhies, who played Lisa Turtle on the original show, was not initially asked to return, but was later included.

In a new interview with Andy Cohen, Elizabeth Berkley discussed whether or not Dustin Diamond will be returning to Bayside. "So, I don't know if he will make an appearance," she said. Berkley continued, "We'll see if there's another season. Maybe it's something to explore, and I haven't talked to him in a long time." As for what the actress means by a long time, she is talking about decades. Berkley had this to say about the last time she saw Diamond.

"Honestly, since I think we finished the show is the last time I actually spoke to him, but not because of anything bad. I mean, he was always nice to me and he's had his journey, but really I've kept more in touch with Mark-Paul (Gosselaar), Tiffani (Thiessen), Mario (Lopez) and then, from time to time, Lark (Voorhies)."

Dustin Diamond continued his Saved by the Bell success by immediately jumping on to The College Years and The New Class. However, by the time those shows came to an end, the phone stopped ringing for the Screech actor. He started a band, made a sex tape, talked trash about his former co-stars, and wrote a tell-all book that contained mostly false stories about his time on the set. Diamond later admitted that the book was ghost written and based off of a short interview he did.

In 2016, Mark Paul Gosselaar spoke about what would happen if he ran into Dustin Diamond. "(I'd say), 'Hey, what's going on, man?' Would we go grab a beer afterwards? Probably not, but that doesn't mean anything," said Gosselaar at the time. From what it sounds like, Diamond's Saved by the Bell co-stars don't really feel like he was a necessary component for the upcoming reboot.

While Dustin Diamond doesn't have a Saved by the Bell reboot role, he does have an idea of where Screech is in life after all of this time. "Screech should be dealing with parenthood and dealing with his kids, and finding out that... maybe he wasn't a barrel full of roses to deal with growing up," says Diamond. "Out of all the cast members, I was in... the most [episodes], and that's not the case anymore if I'm not in the new one. And how do you have Saved by the Bell without Screech, right? We should all be a part of this." Maybe Screech will show up for season 2.
