While a new Saw movie had been rumored for years, it finally seems to be getting off the ground. Earlier this year, Lionsgate brought on Piranha 3D writers Josh Stolberg and Peter Goldfinger to write the script for Saw Legacy, with a report from earlier this month teasing that filming would begin sometime this fall, even though the project didn't have a director attached. It seems that has changed, with a new production listing claiming that this horror sequel has landed a pair of sibling directors, Peter Spierig and Michael Spierig (Daybreakers).

A Reddit user discovered an updated listing from the Ontario Media Development Corporation, which lists what film and TV productions will be shot in the area. This listing confirms the report from earlier this month, which revealed that filming will take place in Toronto, Ontario between September 12 and October 21, but it also reveals that the Spierig brothers have come aboard to direct. Lionsgate has yet to confirm this information as of yet, but it seems that this sequel is finally back on the right track.

Before the writers came on board earlier this year, we hadn't heard much about this sequel over the past few years. In 2014, producer Oren Kroules teased that original Saw creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell could be involved in some capacity, but that hasn't been confirmed. The Ontario Media Development Corporation listing reveals that Oren Kroules and Mark Burg will produce, with Dan Heffner and Peter Block serving as executive producers, with no mention of James Wan and Leigh Whannell.

All seven films in the Saw franchise have grossed $415.9 million domestically and $873.3 million worldwide. That number may not be too exciting, since several movies have crossed $1 billion on their own just this year, but it is impressive since six of the seven films cost just $57 million combined to produce, although there were no budget figures released for Saw IV. We'll have to wait and see if we get any official confirmation on Saw VIII in the weeks and months ahead.

Oren Kroules also revealed in 2014 that the project probably wouldn't be ready to announce until Comic-Con 2016. However, when the full SDCC schedule was announced last week, there was no mention of Saw 8, but it's possible that a surprise panel could be announced before the convention gets under way next week. The Spierig brothers have been attached to direct a project entitled The Winchester Mystery House, but it's possible that could be put on the back burner if they have boarded this new horror sequel. Stay tuned for more updates on Saw: Legacy as soon as they come in.
