Those hoping to see some more horror craziness centered around deadly traps are in luck, as the first trailer for Saw 9 is coming very soon. Chris Rock, yes legendary comedian Chris Rock, is set to lead the cast up the latest installment of the long-running franchise. Much remains mysterious about Rock's take on the series, but that won't be the case for much longer as it's expected that we're going to get our first look at footage on Monday.

According to a new report, Lionsgate is set to drop the Saw 9 trailer on Monday, just after the Super Bowl. Given that this is an R-rated, gory franchise, it doesn't make a ton of sense for Lionsgate to shell out millions of dollars to run a full trailer during the Super Bowl. Perhaps they could run a short ad teasing it, but it makes much more sense for them to debut the trailer in a more traditional way. Whatever the case, it seems the veil of secrecy surrounding this movie will be removed sooner rather than later.

Up to this point, the studio has been staying quiet about the details. We know the project sprang from an idea Chris Rock had. The Grown Ups and Death at a Funeral star previously indicated that it will very much be the Saw franchise we're familiar with, just with some humor added it. A title hasn't even been confirmed, as of this writing, but it was recently rumored that it was going to be released under the title Spiral: From the Book of Saw. If the trailer is indeed coming Monday, we could get a title confirmation, and maybe even a poster, over the weekend.

In Saw 9, or whatever it ends up being titled, Chris Rock will portray a cop investigating a series of bloody crimes. Samuel L. Jackson (Captain Marvel, Glass) will portray his father. Max Minghella (The Handmaid's Tale), is also on board as Rock's Partner, Marisol Nichols (Riverdale) as his boss and Nazneen Contractor (Star Trek: Into Darkness) will play a coroner who is closely working with Rock's character. One of the big questions is whether or not Tobin Bell will return yet again as Jigsaw. Or, if this will be the entry that truly moves on from his iconic killer.

What we know for sure is that there will be some familiar blood in the director's chair as Darren Lynn Bousman makes his return to the franchise. Bousman previously helmed Saw II, Saw III and Saw IV. The most recent entry, Jigsaw, hit theaters in 2017 and was a big hit, grossing $102 million at the box office. We'll be sure to bring the trailer your way as soon as it drops, as well as any other information about the mysterious movie as it's made available. Saw 9 is currently set to hit theaters on May 15.
