It was just a week or so ago now that we passed along the news that Repo! The Genetic Opera and The Devil's Carnival director Darren Lynn Bousman kicked off principal photography on Chris Rock (yes, that Chris Rock's) mysterious new reboot of the semi-classic splatter movie series, Saw. And while it has been speculated for a while now that Rock would also be starring in this new version, today we have word that not only has Rock's casting been confirmed but none other than Nick Fury himself AKA Samuel L. Jackson will be starring in the new Saw movie as well!

Wait, so Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame star Samuel L. Jackson is going to be in a Saw movie? Sure as hell looks like it, ladies and gentlemen. I mean sure, this could be some kind of elaborate prank, but I don't think so at this point in time. That said, the filmmakers could be pulling a Drew Barrymore from Scream trick on us and killing Jackson off at the start of this new motion picture. But we'll just have to wait and see about all of that.

Before today's update that Samuel L. Jackson is joining the torture porn good times this time around, the top reason I was most excited for this upcoming Saw reboot was the inclusion of director Darren Lynn Bousman. For those who might not be as up to date on their horror movie directors as I am, on top of helming the above-mentioned movies Repo! The Genetic Opera and The Devil's Carnival, Darren Lynn Bousman is also no stranger to the world of Saw having taken the helm of Saw 2, Saw 3, and Saw 4. I don't know about you, but I'm glad that Rock and the other powers that be behind the scenes of this new flick decided to go back to the (semi) original classics when filling the director's chair. Sure they didn't manage to snag original Saw director James Wan in their updated trap, but none of us expected that anyhow.

For those of you that might be a bit out of the loop on this new Saw movie, Chris Rock is teaming with Twisted Pictures to bring us this reboot, which is all set to be unleashed by Lionsgate into a theater near you in October 2020. On top of starring in this new Jigsaw adventure along with Samuel L. Jackson, Rock also penned the screenplay for the revival along with Piranha 3D and Sorority Row screenwriter Pete Goldfinger and Jigsaw and Good Luck Chuck screenwriter Josh Stolberg based on a story by Rock.

Chris Rock will also executive produce this reboot along with the creators of the original 2005 film James Wan (The Conjuring, Insidious) and Leigh Whannel (Upgrade, The Invisible Man). Longtime Saw executive producer Daniel Heffner is also serving as an executive producer on this new entry, which longtime series producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules will produce. Lionsgate will unleash this new Saw reimagining into a theater near you on October 23, 2020. This killer casting update comes to us from Bloody Disgusting.
