According to The Hollywood Reporter, the grisly horror film Saw sold an estimated 1.9 million combined DVD and VHS units to retail and rental outlets Tuesday, generating nearly $20 million in total consumer spending during its first day in release, according to industry sources.

Director James Wan's film about a serial killer who devises gruesome situations to get his victims to kill each other, is expected to easily surpass its domestic boxoffice cume of $55 million during its first week in release on home video, according to Saw distributor Lions Gate Home Entertainment.

Last week, DreamWorks Home Entertainment's animated film Shark Tale dominated both DVD and VHS sales, according to Nielsen VideoScan's First Alert weekly sales charts.
