While horror audiences across the country will get to see Jigsaw's latest game starting today, it seems that horror fans in Spain aren't so lucky. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Saw VI was given an X rating by the Spanish Culture Ministry's Film Institute.
That throws a monkey wrench into plans for a wide release, as distributor Buenavista had scheduled the film to bow in 300 theaters this weekend, a hefty rollout for the territory. Now, due to the X rating, the film cannot be screened in commercial theaters and can only be shown in eight theaters in the entire country, theaters which primarily screen pornographic films.
Buenavista has appealed the rating, but since the release date is scheduled for today, Friday, a quick fix doesn't seem likely.
