The ever-popular Scarlett Johansson has starred in dozens of Hollywood blockbusters but hasn't landed a lead role in a TV show - until now. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the academy award-nominated actress is set to star in Just Cause, a limited series based on the 1992 book of the same name. She will also serve as executive producer via her own production banner, These Pictures.

Johansson appeared in the 1995 film of the same name, which was based on a book published a few years earlier. She had a minor role as the daughter of the main character, Paul Armstrong, who was played by the late Sean Connery. The film and the upcoming series share the same premise, with the main character claiming the innocence of a death row inmate about to be executed, although Sean Connery portrayed a professor and former lawyer, while Scarlett Johansson will depict a reporter assigned to cover the execution. The 90s film had received generally negative reviews, although found some success at the box office.

Scarlett Johansson is well known for portraying Black Widow in the long-running Marvel Cinematic Universe, with her final appearance being in 2021's Black Widow. She was the highest-paid actress in the world in 2018 and 2019 and continues to work on multiple projects, including Wes Anderson's Asteroid City, where she will be included in an ensemble cast. She'll also lend her voice to The Jungle Book 2, returning as the deceptive serpent Kaa, although the release date for the film is to be announced. Another one of her upcoming films is Project Artemis, where she will co-star alongside Channing Tatum, who had replaced Chris Evans over scheduling issues.

Returning to indie films (where she got her start in acting), Johansson will star in the upcoming A24 film Bride. It's a spiritual successor to the black-and-white 1935 film, The Bride of Frankenstein, which has since been inducted into the National Film Registry for being 'culturally significant.' The titular character of the A24 movie has been crafted to be a 'picture-perfect' wife who rejects her creator to find freedom - a fitting role for Johansson, who has often been cited as one of the most attractive actresses of her time.

Just Cause will be a limited series starring Scarlett Johansson, although no co-stars have yet been named. Written by Christy Hall, it will stream on Prime Video and be produced by These Pictures and Warner Bros. No release date has been given so far. The series is not to be confused with the video game franchise of the same name, which is based on the code name of the United States' invasion of Panama in 1989.
