Scarlett Johansson will take the lead role in director Barry Levinson's heist film Brilliant, says Variety. Gillian Gorfil and Elizabeth Shorten penned the screenplay, based on a story by Gorfil and Nicholas Lorentz.

The movie, which will start production in September, follows Johansson's character as a jewel thief who teams up with a con man to pull off the biggest heist in history. However, the duo's relationship is full of twists and turns.

The male lead has not been cast yet and producer Avi Lerner anticipates the film to be in wide release in September 2007.
