Sci Fi Channel is producing an updated version of The Wizard of Oz with Tin Man.

The edgy science-fiction fantasy will be turned into a six-hour miniseries from writers Steven Long Mitchell and Craig Van Sickle, who will also serve as co-exec producers with Robert Halmi Sr. and Robert Halmi Jr. Variety says the show turns Dorothy into a young woman named DG, who finds herself plunged into a netherworld called the Outer Zone, the cowardly lion is a wolverine-like creature without backbone, the wicked witch is a sorceress called Azkadellia and the wizard is a larger-than-life figure called the Mystic Man.

Production for Tin Man is slated to begin in Vancouver early next year for a possible December 2007 air date on Sci Fi Channel.
