The Exorcism of Emily Rose director Scott Derrickson is returning to horror with a new untitled project from producer Jason Blum (Insidious, Paranormal Activity).

Little is known about the storyline, although it is said to be a horror tale which has a crime at the heart of its plot. Jason Blum revealed the goal is to emphasize the story and vision ahead of special effects and bankable stars.

"It's hard to do, but when it works, it's much more effective both on the screen and the bottom line."

Jason Blum has had success using this model in both Insidious and Paranormal Activity, which were produced on small budgets and yielded big gains at the box office. Insidious, which is directed by James Wan, is currently in theaters and about to cross the $50 million mark at the domestic box office. Insidious was made on just a $2 million production budget.

This untitled project is being eyed for a summer start date, although it isn't known if a script is being worked on, or who is writing the script.
