According to The Hollywood Reporter, Seann William Scott is attached to star in The Book of Leo, an original comedy screenplay written by Joe Lovero acquired by Universal Pictures. Producing are Marc Platt via his Marc Platt Prods., and Graham Larson and Scott via their Identity Films shingle.
The story follows a young man experiencing a quarter-life crisis on the eve of his 30th birthday.
Nicole Brown and Adam Siegel at Marc Platt Prods. brought the spec from managers Tariq Jalil and Ed Tapia to Universal. Platt then teamed with Scott and Identity producing partner Larson. Tapia and Jalil will executive produce.
Universal Pictures senior vp production Holly Bario and director of development Kristin Lowe will oversee the project for the studio.
Platt, whose credits include Legally Blonde and the Broadway musical "Wicked," has several projects in development at Universal, including "The Power of Duff" and "Good Grief." Platt also is an executive producer on HBO's "Empire Falls," which was nominated for 10 Emmys.
Scott, who can be seen in The Dukes of Hazzard, will begin shooting Richard Kelly's Southland Tales this month. Identity also is developing the untitled camp project and "Gregoire Moulin" for Universal and "The Optimist" for New Line.
