The cast for Scream 6 has been announced, and the film is bringing back several survivors of Ghostface’s last killing spree in Scream (2022). Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding are set to return for Scream 6, which is on schedule to arrive next spring. Per Variety, the film will follow the four survivors as they leave behind Woodsboro and attempt to start a fresh chapter.

Scream (2022) served as a sequel-cum-soft-reboot (or a requel) to the iconic slasher franchise and was released earlier this year. The first film without Wes Craven at the helm, Scream honored the horror icon’s legacy while introducing a new generation of protagonists in hopes of carrying the franchise forward. The film turned out to be a critical and commercial hit as well amid a turbulent global situation, and it was only a matter of time before a sequel was greenlit.

Scream directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Ready or Not) are returning for Scream 6, with James Vanderbilt (Zodiac) and Guy Busick (Castle Rock) penning the screenplay again. Melissa Barrera will reprise her role as Sam Carpenter, the biological daughter of original Ghostface Billy Loomis (played by Skeet Ulrich), with Jenna Ortega as her step-sister, Tara Carpenter. Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding will play twin siblings Mindy and Chad Meeks-Martin, the nephews of Randy Meeks (Jamie Kennedy) from 1996’s Scream.

Scream 6 will be executive produced by franchise creator Kevin Williams and hails from Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Studio. Scream 6 will begin filming next month and is slated to hit theaters on March 31, 2023.

Courteney Cox is Also Confirmed to Return In Scream 6

Courteney Cox has confirmed that she’ll reprise her role as reporter Gale Weather (for the last time, as per many fan theories) in Scream 6. Spoiler! After the heartbreaking and undeservedly gruesome death of David Arquette's fan-favorite character Dewey Riley, Scream 5 proved that no one is safe anymore, not even the legacy characters.

There is an ongoing theory that Scream 5 will lead to a trilogy that’ll kill off Gale Weathers and the original's final girl, Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell). In fact, Scream 6 seems to be setting up a new quartet with Sam, Tara, Mindy, and Chad replacing Sidney, Gale, Randy, and Dewey. Their personalities are quite similar too.

Let’s hope no other beloved character meets a gory demise like Dewey in the upcoming sequel. But the franchise is known for its shocking twists and subverting expectations, so we can’t be sure who will end up on the receiving end of Ghostface’s knife. Scream 6 co-director Tyler Gillett recently told Empire the same, that the upcoming sequel will "risk it all."

"This movie has to be willing to risk it all in order to subvert all of those expectations. And we’re so far down the rabbit hole of Scream movies, that it’s all up for grabs at this point."

While excitement is building up among fans, there is still no word on Neve Campbell’s involvement in the film. She has stated that she’ll be willing to play Sidney again, but on the condition that the script is up to the mark. Hopefully, Campbell will return for Scream 6. It would be a disservice to the fans to make a Scream movie without her.
