Ghostface stalks again in just over a year from now. Per Deadline, Paramount had just set the official release dates for two big feature films currently in the works. Spyglass Media's next Scream sequel, which we'll simply refer to as Scream 6 for now, has been given a premiere date of March 31, 2023. This will be followed by a Bob Marley biopic that's also in development with Kingsley Ben-Adir in the role, coming to theaters on Jan. 12, 2024.

Putting a release date on the board follows the previous announcement that Scream 6 would start shooting this year. This comes from the success of the new Scream, which was meant to revitalize the franchise and spawn a new series of films. The decision to move forward comes from the positive fan response to the film, which was no guarantee without the involvement of Wes Craven. Returning will be the same creative team to help continue to tell the Ghostface saga.

“We are tremendously grateful to the fans around the world who enthusiastically received our film. We can’t wait for audiences to see what Radio Silence, writers Jamie & Guy and Project X have in store for our Woodsboro family," a joint statement by Paramount and Spyglass said of the sequel.

We know that at least one legacy cast member will be coming back. Courteney Cox has confirmed her return as Gale in Scream 6, recently divulging that she'd just been sent the script. Neve Campell's return is also possible, but she's not locked in for the movie just yet. The actress suggested that it depends upon how she feels about the screenplay, which was recently finished.

“They have approached me," Campbell said at Mad Monster Party. "There’s no script yet. There is a draft coming in soon is what I was told. Actually, I was supposed to call a producer yesterday, because he wanted to talk to me about what’s going on. You know, we’ll see. I’ll read the script and see how I feel.”

Whatever happens in the next installment of the series, we can always bet on someone new putting on the Ghostface mask to terrorize victims. It will take some creativity to figure out where to take this story forward, but many horror fans would say the franchise is in good hands with how Scream (2022) turned out. Then again, the response to Halloween Kills was much worse than the 2018 Halloween film by Blumhouse, so it's always possible a follow-up film doesn't get the same warm response.

The latest Scream film was directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick wrote the screenplay. It brought back returning stars like Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette. Also featured was a new cast including Melissa Barrera, Mason Gooding, Jenna Ortega, and Jack Quaid.

Scream (2022) can be found streaming on Paramount+. Scream 6, which will likely get a new title before release, will premiere in movie theaters on March 31, 2023.
