It looks like horror fans can't get enough Ghostface. Shortly after the theatrical premiere of Scream, the fifth installment of the Scream movie series, the hashtag #Scream6 started trending on Twitter. As more and more fans venture out to see the film, which brings back Neve Campbell and other franchise stars, the number of tweets continues to grow with fans asking Paramount to give Scream 6 a green light now so we can get the next film as soon as possible.

This is certainly fantastic news for Paramount and the Scream team. Along with the largely positive response from fans, the film has also been a big success at the box office, serving as the film to finally dethrone Spider-Man: No Way Home from its #1 spot. The idea that directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett had with the fifth Scream was not just to pay homage to the previous movies, but to hopefully kickstart a new Scream movie series as well.

"This new cast of characters is so wonderful," Gillett told Total Film. "The legacy cast, they're so wonderful. I think what we discovered, and what [screenwriters] Guy [Busick] and James [Vanderbilt] did, is they found a real reason for the next story to exist. We know that there is more gas in the tank. There are more stories to be told in Woodsboro, and about these characters, for sure."

"This is the fifth one... it's not Scream 5, though," Courteney Cox has also said, per The Drew Barrymore Show. "This is Scream. The directors are incredible, they're making it absolutely...it's a new franchise... It's hip. It's scary. It's just a new Scream. It's not a reboot, it's not a remake, it's just a brand-new launch. I think it's gonna be fantastic."

Wes Craven directed all four previous Scream movies, so his thumbprint on each of them had always been a constant in the series. After the director's passing, it seemed unlikely that another sequel would ever happen as a result. That Craven wasn't involved had the original star leery to reprise their roles, but it was ultimately the respect they had for the late horror legend that helped convince everyone to sign on.

"Matt and Tyler bring their freshness to it, but we're honoring Wes," star Melissa Barrera told Variety. "I think it'll make the fans happy, but also bring in a new audience to the movies, which I'm excited about. I couldn't believe it; I was being a fan the entire time. Every time they yelled, 'cut,' I would say to the directors, 'Take a picture of us!' Now Courteney is a really close friend of mine. They're all so incredible and I loved it. I'm so excited for January."

Scream is now playing in movie theaters, bringing Ghostface back to the big screen once again. Scream 6 has not been given a greenlight at this time, but considering the success of the fifth film, it seems likely we'll be seeing the masked killer back for more bloodshed.
