Filming on the upcoming slasher sequel Scream 6 has now wrapped. The news was revealed by production union AQTIS 514 IATSE, who posted an image of the cast and crew on social media alongside the caption, "It's in the box! Shooting for the #Scream6 film has now ended. Well done to the Thunder team! We'd also like to thank producer Ron Lynch and #Montréal for choosing @blackmore.productions as their city to shoot.”

Scream 6 will take the killer out of Woodsboro and on an adventure in the Big Apple. Previous reports have revealed that Ghostface will take Manhattan in Scream 6, with the change of setting for tracking with what has already been revealed about the horror movie. Scream 6 “continues with the four survivors of the Ghostface killings as they leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.”

Thus, Scream 6 will see Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding return to reprise their roles from this year’s Scream, aka Scream 5. Following their experience with the infamous slasher, it makes sense that they would want to leave Woodsboro behind them. Unfortunately, it doesn’t sound like their move to New York will not fare too well for them.

Sidney Prescott Will Not Return for Scream 6

It has also been revealed that Scream franchise staple Sidney Prescott, played throughout the series by Neve Campbell, will not return for the sixth outing. While the initial plan was to have Sidney play a role in the story, with Campbell stating that "there were plans for Sidney, and they are no longer, unfortunately. I'm sure they'll make a good movie," the actress ultimately decided to walk away from the project following issues over her salary.

“Sadly I won’t be making the next Scream film," Campbell said. “As a woman, I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream. I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise."

She added, “It’s been a very difficult decision to move on. To all my Scream fans, I love you. You’ve always been so incredibly supportive to me. I’m forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years."

Campbell has since addressed the salary issue further, stating that she believes she would have been offered more if she were a man. “I honestly don't believe that if I were a man and had done five installments of a huge blockbuster franchise over 25 years, that the number that I was offered would be the number that would be offered to a man,” she said. “And in my soul, I just couldn't do that. I couldn't walk on set feeling that — feeling undervalued and feeling the unfairness, or lack of fairness, around that."

Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (who are known collectively as Radio Silence), written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, and starring Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Courteney Cox, Hayden Panettiere, and Dermot Mulroney, Scream 6 is scheduled to be released on March 31, 2023.
