The fifth Scream movie is now playing in theaters, and many critics have raved about how the new film manages to reinvent the franchise while simultaneously serving as a continuation of the original story. While we are following several new characters now, all of them serving as the possible killer if not one of the many victims, there are many nods to the prior films for fans to appreciate. One of these would be with a scene involving Jenna Ortega that's reminiscent of the first scene in the franchise.

At the beginning of the original Scream, Drew Barrymore is harassed on the phone before Ghostface brutally kills her. Ortega's character has been featured in a similar scene with Ghostface tormenting her over the phone before apparently breaking in, and this has been in the trailers and sneak peeks. As far as to how it turns out this time will be up for you to see when you check out the film, but Ortega did tell Entertainment Tonight what her thought process was with doing this scene.

"The thing about it is the Drew Barrymore, Casey Becker scene is one of my favorite scenes of all time across the board in cinema," Ortega says. "Also, it could not have been done more perfectly, so it's hard because I know that all the Scream films since then have been kind of a reiteration or a play on that scene. So, I was kind of wanting to make this one different somehow, but also not seem like I was trying to rip anybody off. I could never do that."

She added: "I wanted to make it my own, but I also wanted to make sure that the acknowledgment and respect for Drew and Wes and Kevin was there and done. I know that people are very critical because that set such a standard, it being the first scene of the franchise and it being so iconic. It's something that I think the Scream community critiques a lot and is very hardcore, and I just didn't want to let anybody down."

Jenna Ortega is one of many fresh faces to join the cast. Meanwhile, the three big stars who've survived since the original are coming back for their fifth battle with Ghostface. Of course, the identity of Ghostface is what always changes, and most often, there are multiple people involved. We aren't getting into any ending spoilers here, but many Scream fans appear to be pretty satisfied with how things end up.

The film's synopsis reads: "Twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, a new killer has donned the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town’s deadly past. Neve Campbell (Sidney Prescott), Courteney Cox (Gale Weathers) and David Arquette (Dewey Riley) return to their iconic roles in Scream alongside Melissa Barrera, Kyle Gallner, Mason Gooding, Mikey Madison, Dylan Minnette, Jenna Ortega, Jack Quaid, Marley Shelton, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Sonia Ammar."
