The Scream series has been going on for quite a while now. Most people can at least recognize the iconic Ghostface killer, but it's a little hard to believe that the series started in the mid-90s by horror visionary Wes Craven is still consistently popular enough to merit another sequel. The second one on debut was so popular that the studio actually intentionally leaked fake scripts to throw people off the trail.

Just announced though is Scream VI which promises that, "No one can hear you scream." Its poster advertised the new setting of New York with "new rules" but we now have a look at the teaser trailer. Let's get into what makes it interesting.

Ghostface Is Headed to The Big Apple

The trailer opens with a classic shot of New York buildings which means the series is moving locales from a small little town called Woodsboro, CA, and shifted to the East Coast. This Ghostface killer guy must have had one heck of a time following our main characters all the way to the Big Apple. This also means that they're doing the classic horror move where you throw your character in a big city to see what happens which has not been historically popular, see Predator 2 and Friday the 13th: Part VIII Jason Takes Manhattan.

We then cut to a trailer favorite of 'things going on with random people in frame' kind of look. They're dressed in costumes and reek of being cheap and easy kills to open up the film. This is perhaps emphasized by how fast the trailer cuts away from whatever it was they were laughing about. One of them probably hears a noise in an alleyway, decides to investigate, and it writes itself really.

Then a subway rolls right into the frame before showcasing more people in costumes crammed in like sardines. So it would seem that this one is definitely taking place on Halloween in addition to the New York setting, perhaps taking a cue from the very popular Halloween reboots. There's a good variety of very well-made-looking Halloween masks like a zombie, the Wolfman, a hidden Pinhead in the background, and several Ghostface killer masks. It would seem as if it will be pretty difficult to spot the right Ghostface killer with so many fans of his donning identical masks on the subway train. They could very well be playing up this mystery later on in the movie with the real killer hidden in plain sight.

The New Cast Is Back And In Trouble

The main cast from the last movie has returned as both the popular Tara and Sam Carpenter are reprised by Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera, respectively. They both look very nervous as they realize the danger they're in from all the potential murderers they're on the train with. The tension builds from the lights flickering on and off as the Ghostface killer moves forward with each moment.

The victim here ends up being Jasmin Savoy Brown as the Ghostface killer hones corners her, covering her scream before a slicing sound effect is played. While things may look grim for her at the moment, it may very well be just a prankster having a laugh at her expense as she was one of the central characters from Scream (the fifth one). It seems unlikely that her death would be given away in a teaser trailer with this in mind, but she may not be safe by the time the credits roll.

After her supposed death, the trailer cuts away to a title card revealing stylized as Scream before a slashing noise drains blood down into the broken-up letter M to appear as a Roman numeral VI. The final bit of information given is the release date of March 10, 2023, which makes it just a little late to the February horror club. No final tease for this one, only a wait until a more lengthy trailer setting up more of the surrounding story.

It's worth noting that this one is called Scream VI, after Scream 5 became just Scream as the studio also seems to be doing the very popular trend of just calling your movie the original title. That being said, horror movie titles are often laughable with Friday the 13th Part 4: The Final Chapter not only not being the final chapter but not even the final movie in the series with the word 'final' in its title.

This next title promises to be the goriest entry into the franchise, which is something to look forward to. If someone wants to really prepare for the next in the series, the best movie might be to rent the actual cabin that was used for Scream 3 on Airbnb.
