On Monday, September 26th, 2022, a trailer for the upcoming Solar Opposites Halloween special, A Sinister Halloween Scary Opposites Solar Special, was released. The animated adult comedy created by Justin Roiland (Rick and Morty) and Mike McMahan (Star Trek: Lower Decks) currently has three seasons available for streaming on Hulu, with a fourth on the way in 2023. However, fans of the chaotic extraterrestrial character foils will only have to wait until Monday, October 3rd, to get their next potentially lethal dose of Solar Opposites.

In the trailer for the Halloween special, Korvo (Roiland) is not anticipating what his partner Terry (Thomas Middleditch) will inevitably refer to as “spooky season.” Unfortunately, that doesn’t stop Terry and his replicant, Jesse (Mary Mack), from leaning way into the horrific aspects of the holiday. For the Solar Opposites, this means exhuming a human corpse and reanimating it using “dark sci-fi magic,” resulting in a Crypt Keeper doppelgänger (played by Tales of the Crypt’s John Kassir) who paraphrases Smash Mouth’s “All Star.”

Meanwhile, Korvo’s replicant, Yumyulack (Sean Giambrone), seems to be entangled in a B-plot that sends him straight to Hell (literally). In a storyline that may be tied to the Pupa (Sagan McMahan), the ghost of the late, fence-impaled Yumyulack is seized by a hole full of Lovecraftian tentacles. He’s then dragged to the black-and-white underworld. There, amid a sea of monochromatic flame, he is confronted by a cadre of menacing red-eyed animals before he is introduced to Satan himself!

This isn’t the first Solar Opposites holiday special to be released on Hulu. In November 2021, The Solar Opposites Holiday Special was released. In this Christmas-themed special, the Solar Opposites found themselves forced to take part in a nightmarish re-enactment of the beloved holiday classic, Jingle All the Way.

Furthermore, A Sinister Halloween Scary Opposites Solar Special is unlikely to be the last time you see the Solar Opposites taking part in a holiday special. During the Solar Opposites panel at SDCC 2022, it was hinted that the upcoming fourth season of the series will also feature a holiday special, just like seasons two and three. However, the creators have played coy about which holiday will be the subject of the third special.

In the meantime, the first three seasons of Solar Opposites and The Solar Opposites Holiday Special are currently available for streaming on Hulu.
