Among the many new Marvel shows coming to Disney+ in the next year, Secret Invasion is one that fans have been waiting to see since it was initially announced as a potential film project several years ago. Starring Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Colbie Smulders, Emilia Clarke and Olivia Colman, among others, Secret Invasion will be the first time Jackson has appeared as the real Nick Fury since his appearance in the post-credit scene of Spider-Man: Far From Home, and according to Kevin Feige he will not look quite the same man he was.

Set images leaked from filming on the new Marvel Studios’ series, we have already been given a taste of the new look of Nick Fury, which includes a gray beard and less of a leather-look about his attire. This is something that Kevin Feige has now confirmed during Disney’ Upfront presentation, telling the audience that Nick Fury will be minus his iconic eye patch and leather trench coat when he returns to screens, but would not confirm any other details than that.

Secret Invasion will continue storylines from Captain Marvel and Spider-Man: Far From Home and act as a precursor to The Marvels, with Nick Fury once again teaming up with Skrull leader Talos as the Skrulls appear to have taken over the form of several people on Earth. There are now a few more details known around the timeline of the story, and the series will see the return of some familiar faces. These include Dermot Mulroney, Don Cheadle, and Martin Freeman, the latter two of which was revealed by Jackson during a podcast interview earlier in the year.

Samuel L. Jackson Explains What Nick Fury Is Doing in Captain Marvel

While Kevin Feige has been teasing that Nick Fury won’t look the same as we are used to seeing him in the new series, this could link to something that Samuel L. Jackson has already hinted at in previous interviews: “Young” Nick Fury will return in the series. Of course, through the use of technology, Jackson was able to play a younger version of himself in Captain Marvel, and it could be that we will see this version of Fury again at some point in the series. While there have also been images revealed of an older, bearded Fury, the storyline of Secret Invasion could easily include a series of flashback sequences, while mainly being set in the present day.

There is a lot of speculation over whether Brie Larson will appear ahead of her return in The Marvels next year. Jackson is thought to be reprising his role as Fury in the movie, so it would not be too unexpected if the series included some kind of tease for the film, which will now not be released until next summer after a switch with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. There is no release date currently known for Secret Invasion, but it is expected to arrive early next year.
