The first trailer and poster for the upcoming whodunnit comedy See How They Run teases the 1950s murder mystery and the stellar cast at its center. Released courtesy of Searchlight Pictures, the footage introduces us to Sam Rockwell as Inspector Stoppard and Saoirse Ronan as Constable Stalker who are tasked with solving a series of murders in Hollywood.

See How They Run will drop audiences in the West End of 1950s London, where plans for a movie version of a smash-hit play come to an abrupt halt after a pivotal member of the crew is murdered. When world-weary Inspector Stoppard (Sam Rockwell) and eager rookie Constable Stalker (Saoirse Ronan) take on the case, the two find themselves thrown into a puzzling whodunit within the glamorously sordid theater underground, investigating the mysterious homicide at their own peril.

A new poster has also been released alongside the first footage from See How They Run, which puts the old-school feel of the mystery-comedy front and center. The story of See How They Run will be told by a hugely impressive roster, with the promo reminding us all of the outstanding cast involved in the project.

Could See How They Run Be the Next Knives Out?

Despite the popularity of the genre, there have not been too many modern-day whodunnits. The most recent to make headlines is of course director Rian Johnson’s critically acclaimed Knives Out, and no doubt See How They Run will aim to appeal to the same audience who made Daniel Craig’s first outing as eccentric detective Benoit Blanc such a smash hit. And with a similarly impressive cast involved, alongside the reliable talents of both Sam Rockwell and Saoirse Ronan, See How They Run certainly has the ingredients to be just as successful and help in reigniting the whodunnit.

The biggest draw of See How They Run though is surely the one-two punch of Sam Rockwell and Saoirse Ronan. Rockwell is by far one of the most talented actors working today thanks to roles in the likes The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Moon, Seven Psychopaths, Jojo Rabbit, Vice, and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and has been the recipient of various accolades, including an Academy Award, a BAFTA, and a Golden Globe Award.

Saoirse Ronan has been met with similar accolades, including a Golden Globe Award and nominations for four Academy Awards and five British Academy Film Awards.

Directed by Tom George and written by Mark Chappell, See How They Run is scheduled to be released in the United States on September 30, 2022, by Searchlight Pictures.
