Russian director Sergei Bodrov has signed on to direct The Spook's Apprentice, for Warner Bros., Legendary and Thunder Road.

According to Variety, the project has been in development since 2005, and is an adaptation of Joseph Delaney's children's tome -- first in "The Wardstone Chronicles" six-part series -- about a 13-year-old who's the seventh son of a seventh son and learns about wizardry from a forbidding old spook.

Chuck Leavitt has been tapped to rewrite the adaptation, originally adapted by Matt Greenberg.
