Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane struck box office gold this summer with his directorial debut Ted, which earned a whopping $500 million worldwide. The multi-talented filmmaker has decided on his next theatrical project, A Million Ways to Die in the West, which he will direct and star in.

Seth MacFarlane wrote the screenplay with Ted co-writers Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild. The Western comedy will be set in the 1800s, exploring how dangerous and difficult life was back in that time period. It is also said to be in the same vein as Blazing Saddles, using contemporary humor in a period setting. The script is reportedly chocked full of the racy humor that Seth MacFarlane is known for.

Media Rights Capital, which financed Ted, will finance and produce, along with Scott Stuber. There is no distributor on board at this time, with production scheduled to begin in the summer of 2013. We reported in September that a Ted sequel is in the works at Universal, although it is still in the early stages of development.
