Family Union: According to Variety, Seth MacFarlane, who created the hit animated comedy series "Family Guy," will co-write and make his directorial debut on comedy pic Family Union for Spyglass Entertainment.

The broad comedy, being co-scripted by Mike Barker and Matthew Weitzman, centers on a commonplace nightmare scenario -- going home every five years to face one's dysfunctional family.

MacFarlane, who brought the screenplay into Spyglass, created and wrote "Family Guy" for Fox when he was 24 and voiced some of the main characters.

Production begins this summer.
