Screenwriter Christopher Kyle has signed on to write the screenplay adaptation for Shadow and Bone, based on Leigh Bardugo's novel.

We reported back in September that DreamWorks acquired the rights to this novel, and its upcoming sequels. The story centers on a young woman, whose land was attacked by mysterious creatures known as the Shadow Fold. She must learn to control her new powers, which may make the difference in her country's war against these foul entities.

David Heyman (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2) and Jeffrey Clifford (Up in the Air) are producing the adaptation for DreamWorks, which has not found a director at this time. The first book, Shadow and Bone, was published in June. The second book Siege and Storm will be published in June 2013, with the final installment arriving in the summer of 2014.

Christopher Kyle wrote the screenplays for The Weight of Water, K-19: The Widowmaker, Alexander, and the upcoming Serena, which stars Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence.
