Columbia Pictures has lined up Thor star Chris Hemsworth for a new project entitled Shadow Hunter.

The project is based on an original idea by Drive screenwriter Hossein Amini, which centers on an elite team of covert operatives who find a way to complete impossible missions. The plot is reportedly inspired by the true story of an Israeli hit squad, who was assigned to take out a Hamas leader, smuggling all 17 members of the unit into a hotel where they eliminated the target. Shadow Hunter will not follow the same story as the Israeli assassins, although it will be set in the same type of environment.

Hossein Amini will executive produce Shadow Hunter, although it is not known if he will write the screenplay. Hossein Amini also wrote Snow White and the Huntsman, which stars Chris Hemsworth. Shadow Hunter will be produced by Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson through their ContraFilm banner, along with Will Ward. Here's what Columbia Pictures president Hannah Minghella had to say about the project.

"We think the story is a terrific action thriller for Chris Hemsworth and we know this project is in great hands with Tripp, Beau and Will as they develop the film."

No production schedule was released for Shadow Hunter.
