With the arrival of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings coming in just a couple of weeks, Marvel fans have been asking the usual question: will the movie have the regular Marvel post credit scene. According to director Destin Daniel Cretton, the newest addition to the MCU will indeed continue the tradition of including additional footage at the end of the movie, although there is obviously no word on what this will contain and whether it will provide a link to one of the upcoming Marvel projects slated to arrive later this year. However, that does not mean that the theorizing cannot begin now, right?

Like every director to take the helm of a Marvel movie, Cretton was remaining tight lipped about what the content of the post-credit scene will be, or even if it will be an integral part of the MCU or one of those fun little scenes that crop up every now and then, mostly when audiences have sat through eight minutes of credits to see someone step out of a toilet and have a stretch. However, Cretton did tell Fandango, "Audiences should most definitely stick around."

So far, the MCU's phase four has included interesting post credit scenes in WandaVision, Falcon And The Winter Soldier, and most recently in Black Widow, which set up the upcoming Hawkeye series. The director has revealed that the movie will be set in current day, making it the first movie of the MCU to set up a new character in the post-blip world, with previous entry Spider-Man: Far From Home and indeed TV series WandaVision, Falcon and The Winter Soldier and Loki all featuring well established characters. Black Widow seemed like it was not going to have much of an impact on the future of the Marvel timeline thanks to its main action taking place after the events of Captain America: Civil War, but then the post credit scene through the curve ball of skipping forward to current day events.

One interesting aspect of Shang-Chi is the involvement of The Abomination, last seen in The Incredible Hulk and soon to be seen again in the She-Hulk series. It could be a possibility that this series will get its first tease as part of Shang-Chi's additional scene. Of course, there are so many upcoming marvel projects that you could put numbers in a hat and choose one from the several projected currently in post-production or on filming. What is likely is that the post-credit scene will be one with some relevance to the on going Marvel story and will not just be a throwaway scene.

The press embargo on Shang-Chi lifts later today and is expected to see the first reactions to the movie arrive online. With Shang-Chi's cultural importance being brought to the fore, there will be a lot of attention around these first impressions of the movie, which is currently predicted to bring around $50 million from its theatrical only release on September 3. Whether Disney's stance remains in place over the coming weeks, or if recent public opinions over Covid worries mean that a streaming option is made available simultaneously is something that we will just have to wait and see.
