The film Basic Instinct has given Sharon Stone a bittersweet memory. While the film helped her cement her career in the industry, the film was also the reason why she lost custody of her child. The actress revealed that the film affected her personal life negatively as it contributed greatly to the court’s decision to make her ex-husband Phil Bronstein as the primary caretaker of their adopted son named Roan.

It was through Stone’s performance on the erotic thriller film Basic Instinct that made her a Hollywood superstar in 1992. Although the film had skyrocketed her fame, it had serious consequences in her personal life. In the actress’ interview with Bruce Bozzi on the podcast Table for Two, she said, “I lost custody of my child. The judge asked my child, my tiny little boy, 'Do you know your mother makes sex movies?'

The actress can only sigh in dismay as she believes that a single film does not define her as a parent. She continued, "This kind of abuse by the system, that it was considered what kind of parent I was because I made that movie. People are walking around with no clothes on at all on regular TV now. You saw maybe a 16th of a second of possible nudity from me, and I lost custody of my child."

A Heartbreaking Event That Resulted To a Decline in Sharon Stone’s Health

Sharon Stone got married to Phil Bronstein in 1998. The couple then decided to adopt Roan in 2000 since the actress wasn’t able to conceive biologically. However, just four years after they adopted Roan, the couple split and their divorce was finalized in 2004. Initially, the former couple had shared custody of their son with Bronstein being the primary caretaker.

Since she’s the mother, Stone decided to challenge this setup in 2008 to be Roan’s primary caretaker. Little did she know that a film she made over a decade ago would be a factor in the court’s decision. She ended up losing the court battle, and it broke her heart. Due to this, she has gotten tons of health issues as she was severely affected by the court’s ruling.

Thankfully, all’s well that ends well as Stone and Roan were able to maintain a great relationship over the years. Roan also holds his mother dear and even filed for legal papers to add Stone to his full legal name in 2019. The actress was so happy that she even shared a photo of her son on her Instagram account with the caption ‘Roan Stone.'
