In a surprising turn of events, director Shawn Levy was recently confirmed for directing the forthcoming and much anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe film, Deadpool 3. The news came after Ryan Reynolds publicly announced Levy’s involvement in the project via Instagram, confirming Deadpool 3 to be his third collab with the director.

And now, spilling out a major tease, Levy has confirmed his intentions of putting Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman together in a movie, and nothing could be of a bigger hype than this. Talking to Comicbook.com during his interview for his latest Netflix release, The Adam Project, which also stars Reynolds alongside another MCU veteran Mark Ruffalo, Levy said,

"I'm not going to say where or how, but I absolutely will confirm my intention and determination to be the lucky son of a b*tch who puts those two magnificent gods in the same movie together. That will happen, and that will be me."

It wouldn’t be the first time these two actors have made it on-screen together. Levy earlier managed to sneak in Jackman in a cameo appearance in his previous project with Reynolds, Free Guy. And now that Levy is working on Deadpool 3, fans can’t stop hoping for the epic showdown between the foul-mouthed merc and the fan-favorite X-Men member, Wolverine.

Deadpool and Wolverine: Will They Ever Meet On-Screen?Will Deadpool 2 Introduce the New Wolverine?

Ever since Reynolds got his dream to play Deadpool the way he intended to in the 2016 film, he has constantly teased and advocated the return of Jackman as Wolverine and share screen with him. In fact, in one way or another, in his Deadpool film, which often breaks the fourth wall, Reynolds has mentioned Wolverine or Hugh Jackman to show his desperation to get him on board for a team-up film in the X-Men franchise. However, Jackman retired from the role after seventeen years, making a final appearance in James Mangold’s Logan, in which his character was aged, weary, and eventually killed.

However, in another turn of events, in 2019, Disney acquired Fox Studios, which brought all X-Men characters’ rights back to Marvel Studios. With the idea of multiverse introduced into the MCU, there’s now a huge room for all those characters to return to the franchise, starting with Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier/Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Deadpool 3 was actually one of the first projects from the X-Men film series to be included in the MCU, which could be the first R-Rated project from the studio.

Now, with Shawn Levy, who very recently expressed his desire to direct a Marvel film, backing up Deadpool 3, we can hope that Hugh Jackman will consider his return to his long-served role and team up with Reynolds in MCU’s shared continuity.

Expressing his joy over the idea of Levy bringing in Jackman in a project with him, Reynolds said,

"That would be amazing! I say write to Kevin Feige, care of Marvel Cinematic Universe at whatever Buena Vista Way. I don't know where it is, but yeah, that would be nice. That would be a dream. That would be a dream come true."

The details of Deadpool 3 are under wraps, but it could be one of the films Marvel Studios may release within its 2023 slates booked for yet-untitled films.
