Helen Mirren may be starring in DC movie Shazam! Fury of The Gods, but it is clear that she hadn’t gone through the same pep talk about spoilers as Marvel casts receive. Speaking to The Associated Press, Mirren played it cool answering questions about her own character in the movie, but went on to reveal some details about co-star Rachel Zegler’s character which had previously been under wraps. We are still over a year from seeing the return of Zachary Levi’s hero in the sequel to 2019 hit Shazam! and there is no doubt that Warner Bros. may have wanted to keep some of these details secret until nearer the time of release, but as is usually the case, when it comes to the biggest movies, these things have a way of coming out.

Shazam! Fury of The Gods will bring the unlikely hero back to screens in June 2023, even though filming wrapped back in August this year, and fans have already been given some behind the scenes footage at DC FanDome in October, but now have a long wait until they get to any more. With that in mind, we are now in the dark and shadowy territory between official footage and cinema release, during which time fans are happy to take all the unofficial leaks they can get and with Mirren’s comments it seems like we are already getting spoilers – please bear this is mind if you read on.

When asked exactly which side of the hero/villain line her character Hespera sits on, Helen Mirren said, “I'm not going to tell you the answer to that. You're going to have to ascertain for yourself.” She then went on:

"I'm a member of three goddesses: Lucy Liu as Kalypso and the third goddess played by Rachel Zegler, who will be a huge star in a very short space of time. So there are three of us together, and that was really a great experience because it's so infrequent that you get to spend a whole of a movie with two other women. So often you're the only woman in the cast. Here we were a trio, and that was great. I loved it."

It seemed that Rachel Zegler was happy to go along with the leaked information, reposting the interview on her Twitter account and commenting, “y'all…. my bag is empty……. i swear i had a cat in here………"

While we were given some footage of Mirren’s Hespera and Lucy Liu as Kalypso, it had not been confirmed that Zegler would be playing the third Daughter of Atlas. The trio will be foes to Shazam/Billy Batson in the sequel, and when it comes to how the hero himself has developed since the original Shazam! Zachary Levi was happy to talk about that when appearing at DC FanDomeChina.

"I think in the first [Billy] was 15 years old or something like that so, you know [I was] trying to be very specific about, well what is it to play a 15-year-old foster kid. And then now, this one, he's a few years older, he's 17, and there's a big difference in that, you know. In fact, you know, in those years, they're very formative growth years. A 15-year-old kid is much different than a 17-year-old kid in some respects, so I just tried to evolve that as best I could, you know, as I stepped into this."

Shazam! Fury of The Gods will arrive in theaters June 2nd, 2023.
